## What TikTok ads are good for

TikTok rewards content that looks native to TikTok: people talking to camera, quick demos, behind-the-scenes, before-and-after. It suits products with a visual payoff and brands willing to show real people. Ecommerce, food and drink, beauty, fitness, events, recruitment for younger roles and consumer services often do well. DataReportal's Digital 2026 UK report lists TikTok's UK advertising reach at 26.8 million adults aged 18 and over. TikTok's terms set a minimum user age of 13, so be careful with products that have age restrictions.

It suits businesses less well when the buyer is a procurement manager or the product cannot be shown in a few seconds. For those, LinkedIn ads or search ads are usually a better first step.

## In-Feed ads and Spark Ads

Most TikTok advertising uses In-Feed ads, which appear in the For You feed. There are two kinds:

- **Non-Spark ads** are uploaded straight into Ads Manager. They do not appear on your profile. TikTok's specifications recommend 9:16, at least 540 x 960 px (we deliver 1080 x 1920), up to 10 minutes and 500 MB, in MP4, MOV, MPEG, 3GP or AVI.
- **Spark Ads** run an existing organic post, from your account or a creator's, as an ad. Likes, comments and follows count on the original post. A creator generates an authorisation code in the app's ad settings for one video and chooses how long it is valid; when that period ends the ad stops.

Spark Ads usually feel more natural and keep the social proof. They suit businesses that also post organically, or that work with creators. Paid creator content must be labelled as an ad; see influencer marketing.

## Smart+ or manual campaigns

Smart+ is TikTok's automated campaign type. It decides targeting, budget split, placements and which creative to show. TikTok's Q2 2026 product preview says advertisers can now switch automation on or off module by module, for example keeping targeting automatic while setting budget manually. Smart+ works best with a good number of creatives and enough conversions to learn from.

Manual campaigns give more control and are easier to diagnose with small budgets. We often start manual, find which hooks and offers work, then move proven creative into Smart+. TikTok's help centre sets the floor at daily budgets above $50 per campaign and $20 per ad group, and warns that a campaign budget lower than the ad group budget can cause delivery issues.

## Tracking: Pixel, Events API and consent

The TikTok Pixel records actions on your website. TikTok's Events API sends the same actions from your server, shop platform or CRM. TikTok's help centre recommends running both together with event deduplication, so each purchase or lead is counted once. Shopify and WooCommerce have integrations that handle most of this; custom sites need a tag manager or server set-up.

As with Meta and LinkedIn, the TikTok Pixel is an advertising technology and needs cookie consent in the UK. We set consent up properly and accept that some conversions will be modelled rather than counted. For the whole tracking stack across platforms, see conversion tracking, from £145 + VAT one-off.

## Creative is the targeting

On TikTok, the ad decides who sees it more than the audience settings do. The first two seconds matter most: a clear hook, a face, a question or a surprising visual. Text overlays should sit inside TikTok's safe zones so the caption and buttons do not hide them. Business accounts should use commercially licensed sounds; TikTok's Q2 2026 product preview describes a Music Autofix tool for Smart+ app campaigns precisely because unlicensed music blocks delivery.

Creative tires quickly on TikTok, so we plan fresh variations each month. We can edit from footage you film on a phone, or brief a creator. Management is from £150 a month + VAT, and creative production beyond simple edits is quoted. See our pricing.

## FAQs

### How much does it cost to advertise on TikTok?

dijitul marketing manages TikTok ads from £150 a month + VAT. Ad spend is paid directly to TikTok. TikTok's help centre sets minimum daily budgets above $50 per campaign and $20 per ad group, billed in your account currency.

### What are TikTok Spark Ads?

Spark Ads promote an existing organic TikTok post, from your account or a creator's, as an ad. Engagement counts on the original post. Creators authorise a single video with a code and choose how long the authorisation lasts.

### What size should TikTok ads be?

TikTok recommends vertical 9:16 video. Its specifications require at least 540 x 960 px for non-Spark In-Feed ads, up to 10 minutes and 500 MB. We supply 1080 x 1920 and keep text inside TikTok's safe zones.

### Do we need to post organically on TikTok to run ads?

No. Non-Spark ads run without appearing on your profile. But an active profile helps, because people who like an ad often check the account, and organic posts can be turned into Spark Ads.

### Should we use Smart+ campaigns?

Often, once you have several proven creatives and steady conversions. With a small budget or untested creative, a manual campaign is easier to learn from. TikTok now lets you switch Smart+ automation on or off for targeting, budget and placements separately.

### Can I use any music in TikTok ads?

No. Business ads should use sounds cleared for commercial use, or original audio. Popular tracks on personal accounts are often not licensed for advertising, and TikTok's Q2 2026 product preview notes that unlicensed music can block an ad from delivering.
